A New Decade Begins – Fearing Forty?

I am a Scorpio don’t placate me. Forty is the new thirty? 39 Again (wink, wink)? Really? 40 is not even mid-life anymore.

In November, we both had a change of the decade, Rick turned 60 and I turned 40. Some people asked what we would do for this triumphant milestone. We celebrate each day and undoubtedly have made this year a milestone. It was great however to see and celebrate with friends and family. Although ironically Ilaria thought she was having lots of festivities!?

When someone says that forty is the new thirty all I can think is – If you mean I have a little one and will have well over 10 more years before I have to not worry about bedtimes and curfews then yes. Other then that please call me 40, I have earned it. Our culture places way to much emphasis on ageless youth and not enough on the wisdom.  Wisdom that one can only gain with experience + time (some of my younger “experiences” I have had loads of time to assimilate).

For later in life moms yes, 40 is in a way the new 30, but with lots more expertice. You see, I have had the benefit of lots of years alone with my partner, tons of footloose travel, and knowing myself much more clearly before adding another spirit to the mix. Here is a piece of frustration that no one tells mature 1st time moms – you have HAD herds of personal time, an appreciation for finer things, and an independent lifestyle. Young moms never had that lengthly indulgence. Revel in it! That WAS great. And people say that youth is wasted on the young? At least I had the energy to enjoy it. I love our new experiences and we have not skipped to many beats so I don’t long for a lot of things. Ok, maybe quite time to read before 9:00 P.M. when it will just put me to sleep.

So here we are reaching 40 and 60. Screw the somber and live it, embrace it, celebrate it, embody it!   Scorpios concern themselves with beginnings and endings, and are unafraid of either.
